Support for dental anxiety
At our dental practice in Essen-Bergerhausen, we offer hypnosis as a supportive measure during dental treatment. Please speak to us if you would like this type of assistance. Hypnosis can be considered as a complementary method to help direct your attention and reduce tension during dental procedures. Whether it is suitable for a specific individual and the planned procedure must be determined on a case-by-case basis.
01
Openly address fears beforehand
02
Understand the method and its limitations
03
Assess suitability personally
What is meant by hypnosis
Hypnosis refers to a state of focused attention or light trance. The person undergoing the procedure remains responsive. However, the experience and the level of relaxation achieved vary from person to person.
Discuss goals in advance
In cases of dental anxiety, the first step is to clarify which situations are particularly distressing and what form of support is desired. Hypnosis is one possible form of support, but it does not guarantee a complete absence of fear or stress, nor does it ensure a specific treatment outcome.
Further information on communication, breaks, and a calm start can be found under Dental anxiety.
Suitability and procedure vary by individual
Before the procedure is used, personal prerequisites, the planned intervention, possible alternatives, and organizational details must be discussed. This method is not a substitute for a dental examination or individual treatment planning.
Your questions about dental hypnosis
How do I get started if I am afraid of the treatment?
You do not have to wait until the actual appointment to raise your concerns. Please let us know what is worrying you and that you are interested in hypnosis when you book your appointment. During a consultation, we can discuss your expectations, the procedure, and possible alternatives.
Can I discuss other options as well?
Yes. Hypnosis is an option we offer, not a requirement for treatment at our practice. You can find information on a gentle approach to treatment on our page regarding dental anxiety. We also offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas); we will discuss individually which form of support is best suited to your needs.
This information does not replace a personal examination or individual medical advice.
